Breakfast
Others tend to skip breakfast especially when in a hurry which is not healthy. Breakfast is the most important meal because it provides the energy we need to start the day. No time or being busy is not an excuse to skip this very important meal because there are easy to prepare foods. These breakfast recipes take only a few minutes to prepare.
Left-over rice is never wasted if you try Sinangag (Philippine fried rice):
the traditional Filipino breakfast
Ingredients:
• left over rice
• 1 onion, sliced
• 2 cloves garlic, chopped
• salt and pepper to taste
Procedure:
Heat 1-2 tbsp. cooking oil in a pan until hot. Add garlic, sauté until brown then add onion. Then add rice, salt and pepper. Fry for around 2-3 minutes. If you like you can add hotdog, “chorizo”, shrimp or egg depending on your choice before removing from the pan. To add more colour, green peas and spring onion can also be added.
Beef tapa (Cured beef)
Ingredients:
• 1 kilo beef sirloin
• ¼ cup sugar
• 1 head garlic, minced
• ¾ cup cane vinegar
• 1 tablespoon salt
• 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
Procedure:
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and make sure every meat is coated with the mixture. Place them in a pan and refrigerate overnight for meat to absorb the mixture. When cooking tapa, simply heat cooking oil in a pan and fry beef until cooked. Serve with fried rice and sliced tomato.

Ampalaya with egg
Ingredients:
• 2 tbsp. cooking oil
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 medium onion, sliced
• 2 medium size ampalaya (or bitter gourd), thinly sliced
• 2 eggs, beaten
• salt and pepper to taste
Procedure:
Heat cooking oil in a pan until hot, add and sauté garlic, onion and tomato. Stir in ampalaya, cover and let it simmer for about 4 minutes. Add pepper and salt and beaten egg. Cook for another 2 minutes and remove from heat. Serve while hot with dried fish or tuyo and vinegar with chilli.
